FLO is a new vaping product line designed with young adults as the primary target audience.
I was responsible for designing and developing FLO’s Shopify platform, as well as creating corresponding digital marketing strategies to ensure a swift market entry for this new startup. This project aimed to establish a strong online presence and effectively promote their products reach the target audience quickly.

Originally, FLO was a sub-brand of the company's product aimed at an older demographic, aged 50 and above. However, the stakeholders decided to expand its market and target audience. As a result, FLO has evolved into a standalone brand focused on appealing to young adults, aged below 25.
While FLO embraced a new concept, some design elements from its previous sub-brand remain due to established customer familiarity. My goal is to find a balance between the old and new design concepts.
Main Goal
Launch the urgent within 1 month.
Our goal was to launch Flo's Shopify website and its supporting systems within one month, with the challenge of having only one designer and no developers on the team. This required me to focus on integrating all essential functionalities for the online store, addressing both front-end visual content and back-end product integration and data monitoring.
Our high level goals included:

Launch the online store as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.

Create a platform that carries all product lines and necessary infos.

Strengthen and enhance the brand identity.
Kick Off
Determine essential framework from ground up.
At first, we were uncertain about the specific functionalities required for the website and which e-commerce platform would be most suitable. Thus, we conducted a thorough analysis of competitors, examining their website contents, traffic sources and revenue streams. Additionally, we reached out to our potential customers to gain insights into their needs and preferences, helping us identify key areas of focus.


We reviewed our competitors' websites and identified key pages while comparing their areas of focus. However, when we spoke to smokers about trying our product, many expressed concerns about our legitimacy and safety. They also mentioned wanting to see our products in smoke shops, as retail items typically have more legal regulations. What sets us apart from our competitor's key pages is as a new brand, we need to emphasize our legal lab reports and utilize our partnerships with established smoke shops to build trust in our brand.



While using Semrush to analyze competitors' website traffic sources, we discovered that newer brands are increasingly utilizing influencer programs to drive traffic to their sites. ShareASale is a platform that legally manages influencer partnerships for D8 products. Our analysis revealed that influencer-generated traffic accounts for nearly one-third of the total traffic among these competitors.
We realized that, besides having the essential product pages, we needed to add a few more features to really engage our users and boost sales. For instance, we wanted a page for influencer partnerships, a way to connect to the online store, and options for selling related products. Being a new brand, it was crucial for us to build trust with our audience. So, we included a showcase page for our B2B partners and some key documentation about our materials. This not only made us look more credible but also gave potential customers the reassurance they needed.

Business Challenge
During our stakeholder meeting, we proposed the plan for opening an online store for FLO. Initially, there was resistance due to the high costs associated with launching an online store—not only the platform fees but also expenses related to banking and legal services. Stakeholders also questioned the necessity of an online store, given that our primary revenue source is currently wholesale. To address these concerns, we presented our research findings and developed a comprehensive business model outlining the potential benefits after establishing an online store. We detailed projected revenue streams and estimated expenses, painting a bright vision for the brand’s future. This approach helped to clarify our intentions and demonstrated the viability of our plan, which ultimately helped us to get their support.

After analyzing the results from my research, I created this e-commerce site map to clearly outline the structure for the intended Shopify website, which helps me to build the whole platform in a more efficient and organized way.

Execution
Dive for effective, and cost-saving solutions
I collaborated closely with stakeholders to align on the specific features to be implemented on the website. As I develop our core website pages using GemPages, I am also setting up the CMS, configuring shipping and fulfillment options, and optimizing SEO in the content. I believe these pages will provide a solid foundation for our store to begin operations.
For product pages, I developed 3 key features, essential information, customer recommendations, and customer reviews to help customers stay informed and encouraging purchases.

I gathered the most concerned features from from our customers and placed them at the top for quick access, so they can make informed decisions.
Customer Recommendations:
These products are chosen based on their browsing history to encourage additional purchases and increase average order value.
Reviews & FAQ:
I chose to include reviews and FAQs to help buyers feel more confident in their choices and reduce uncertainty. Additionally, these sections can enhance SEO and attract more traffic to the webpage.
I created a merchandise page as well as the actual merchandise to strengthen our brand identity and provide an additional revenue source for more stable income. The designs for the hoodie and t-shirt embrace a street fashion style, incorporating our brand slogan and intellectual property.



Just like I did in my previous research, I included an influencer application page to drive traffic and boost sales. It would make us easier to manage and onboard new affiliates efficiently.
As a newly established brand, we do want to build our credibility to gain customer trust. I’ve created a dedicated page showcasing our business partners and store locators to help customers find our products at reputable stores. This not only highlights our collaboration with trusted retailers but also provides customers with convenient access to purchase locations.


What I did more...
Reinforce brand identity for customer acquisition and retention
In the same time as building the website, I not only focused on creating the individual pages but also improved the overall system processes that an e-commerce platform should have. I developed a comprehensive email workflow to support this goal. For these automated emails, I created basic HTML templates for the company to use in the future. Additionally, I established official social media accounts for the company’s affiliate program to facilitate the development of social media campaigns and foster greater engagement with users.

Potential user touch points based on our current development
Based on the touch points I presented, I identified the need to connect email flow with FLO's Shopify platform in the early stages, as email builds a crucial bridge between the brand and customer. I separated my target audience into two groups: individual buyers, and business partners.

For individual buyers, I developed this automated email workflow (top image) and integrated it with Shopify's Analytics to achieve two primary objectives: keeping users informed about their orders and keeping the brand top-of mind for users, increasing the likelihood of return visits.

Since our primary revenue comes from smoke shops and wholesalers, it's essential to keep our business partners informed. While our B2C email content emphasizes visual appeal and brand mood, our B2B content will prioritize product pricing and product blends.
In the previous section, I mentioned our intention to study competitors' strategies, particularly their use of influencer collaborations to boost sales. To achieve multi-platform integration as I created FLO's influencer collaboration page, it is essential for me to establish a strong social media presence to enhance brand presence. Our video content will primarily showcase our brand achievements and brand culture.
The Launch
Positive results and the future.
I successfully launched the website in early December 2023 and began promoting our brand online shortly after. However, due to financing issues, the payment gateway wasn't approved until mid-February 2024. In the six months following the launch of FLO's initial Shopify site, the company continued to release new product lines and evolve its brand concepts. Although I haven't been part of the team since February 2024, it’s been rewarding to see that much of my work is still in use today. Overall, the launch of FLO's Shopify website, along with its digital marketing initiatives, has positively impacted brand awareness and, most importantly, the company’s revenue.
